Dr. Kim focuses on family, cosmetic, and dentistry under general anaesthesia. Her patients know her as the “gentle dentist” for her careful and considerate treatment of all patients.
Dr. Kim obtained her Bachelor of Science (1996) and her Doctorate of Dental Medicine (2000), both with Honors at the University of British Columbia. During her four years in dentistry, she was granted numerous awards. She was awarded the Proficiency prize in Oral Medicine. She was also granted the Matthew J. Waterman Prize and the New Investigator Award for her excellence in dental research.
Following graduation, Dr. Kim was selected as one of three general practice residents (G.P.R.) at the University of Alberta. This elective training gave Dr. Kim further training in oral maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, oral medicine, and pedodontics. In addition to treating patients in the department of dentistry, she also provided comprehensive dental care to medically compromised, disabled, and trauma patients at the U of A hospital. As part of her GPR training, she often performed dental treatment under General Anaesthesia at the U of A Hospital.
Dr. Kim believes that access to dental care should be for everyone, including those who cannot undergo treatment under local anaesthesia. She has therefore continued seeing patients under general anaesthesia at private surgical centres. Typically patients who would benefit from this service are pediatric, disabled, or patients who are highly anxious about dentistry.
Dr. Kim is a member of the BC Dental Association, and the Canadian Dental Association. She strongly believes in continuing dental education to provide the highest quality care for her patients. She regularly updates her dental training by enrolling in lecture series, classes, and conferences. Included is the orthodontic study club at UBC, the ITI Implant study club, Vancouver district dental society, aesthetic study clubs, the Pacific Dental conference, and classes in endodontics and periodontics. She has also completed a year long mini-residency program in implant dentistry and is currently a part of an implant/periodontal study group mentored by the periodonitst Dr. Grisdale.
